LDR packages ideas

The simple but cute love package guide for LDR couples!

Hello everyone, I thought that we never have enough ideas of what we could send our significant other to show him/her that we are thinking of them every second of the day! At the same time we always need to keep in mind that packages needs to be small and not pricey. So here a gift list that might be helpful:

  • Handmade post card: Of course when you send a package, you join a letter, but why not upgrading the level of creativity, why not making your own postcard? First, way is a simple but cute one: printing a photo, stick it on a good paper and then write your letter on the back. Second: draw something and transform it into a post card. If you are not confident enough in drawing your own thing, take a look in bookstore to find mandalas books! I use those “color books” all the time to send my SO letters. To add a touch up, put some of your perfume on the letter, and hope it stays till your SO receive it!
  • Candies and snacks: but not any candies and snacks, you can make your own or try to find special one from your country. Try to find creative, and funny, or even weird stuff for your SO to taste! A surprise is always appreciated and so is food. If you prefer you can always stay classic and send box of chocolate, or hard candies that he or she likes. The nice thing about candies and snacks is that it doesn’t take much place and…. who doesn’t like sweets?
  • Keychains: why not sending something cute, and small that your lover can carry around anywhere? Yes a keychain! Take a look on the internet, there is quite a lot of companies or artists that can create your own personalised keychain. If the price is too high for you, take a look around in small boutiques, pharmacy, malls, etc. where you can find tons of different type of keychains.
  • Printed photos: we don’t take time anymore to print photos, and it might sound old school, but printed photos are quite amazing. You can stick it everywhere: in your room, office, on the fridge, etc. and as you pass by, you have the face of your SO smiling at you. Be old school, this is my advice!
  • Electronics: if ever you have a bit more budget for this package, why not thinking about handy and tiny electronics stuff. The best example are good earphones. Who doesn’t need earphones nowadays? Or, if your SO is more towards taking photos and videos, why not offering a memory card! As a person who love to take photos I can tell how handy it is to have plenty of memory cards.
  • Beauty products: don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to send a lipstick to your boyfriend, but it could be his favorite aftershave, or soap. Inform yourself about what he or she likes!
  • Finally… your perfume. Nowadays it is easier to find smaller version of perfume or even samples. If ever you are able to find it. Send it to your SO. I’m sure they will be happy to spray it on their pillow at night.

Hope it was helpful, and now be creative for your next love package!

Gift ideas!

Hey guys!

Are you wondering what to offer to your SO and his/her family when you’ll be visiting? After the lists of activities that I created lately, let get you some gift ideas you might like to offer. For all of you out there that doesn’t have a lot of money, don’t worry. There is always handmade gifts and cheap gifts idea. Of course you can offer more expensive stuff if you want and can. Ready? Lettuce begin (Again reference from Krist soup on YouTube).

1 – Postcards aren’t out of date when you are living thousands of miles away. A very old fashion hand written letter is so nice to receive, and even more if it is made by yourself! If you want to know how to do a DIY postcard, check out the DIY section!

IMG_20151125_211736

2- Why not offering typical tools or useful objects from your country. Example, the parents of Bruno offered to my parents a traditional Japanese tea pot. In return, we offered a lot of maple syrup derived products (maple syrup, candies, maple sugar, maple spread, etc.). So … what is eatable, or useful, that comes from your country, and could be easily offered? Think about it! (Food, clothes, tools, art, games, etc.)

3- Clothes! If you know the shape and body size of your SO, and you stumble upon a pretty shirt, or piece of clothe, why not buying it? I bought several shirts to Bruno already, and it was always appreciated. It is even more appreciated when you touch up a plain shirt with your own art! Take a look in the DIY section to learn about how to modify your own shirts.

4- Shoes! It is maybe hard to find the right pair you say, but for some type of shoes no need : Flipflops for example! I received a pair from Bruno and I love them. Cheap and useful!

5- Are you living in a Nordic country? think about those things : good quality sucks made of wool to keep your feet warm. Another idea: knitted stuff! I did a scarf for Bruno once, so he could stay warm during our Canadian winter. Keep watching the DIY section of our blog, I’ll post how a tutorial on how to do your own scarf!IMG-20151228-WA0000

6- For all the geek out there: sending board games/video games or paying for online games to play together is always an excellent gift to make.

So this is it for the first lit of gifts, stay tune if you want to have more ideas. Other lists will come soon and tons of DIY if you love to create stuff! Thanks for following us.

List of activities (2)

Hello there! Want some more activities to do with your LDR SO (significant other)?? Here we go!

PS. Don’t hesitate to add more in the comment section down below!

8 – Friends and family meetings on Skype. It is not because you are living miles away that you can’t have a good relationship with his/her family and friends! One day Bruno and I have watch Game of Thrones with all our friends together.

9 – Guessing game. When I buy a gift for Bruno, the guessing game becomes the best game in the world. I don’t want to simply tell him what I found out for him, he needs to guess it! It is a funny and interactive way to share what you bought. The guessing game can be use for pretty much every thing and can be a simple game to play too!

10 – Shopping!!! Of course I am a girl, and I love shopping. But what I like most is to show Bruno what I am trying on, and see if he likes it or not! I can even buy things for him too if he likes it. In the last post I shared the WhatsApp application. For shopping with your SO, I would say that this application is a must. If you can have an internet connection, then you can send pictures of everything that you are currently trying or seeing.

11- Movies and Tv series. Who doesn’t like a cuddling movie night with his/her significant other? There is now a lot of website that allows us, LDRs, to watch videos (Youtube, Movies, Tv shows) at the same time. Why not watching your favorite Tv show with your love each Friday night? Check out the list of website on LDR Magazine website!

12 – Learning a new language. For all of you out there in and LDR-intercultural relationship, learning the first language of your SO could be really interesting. Even more if you think on going/living to his/her country. There is many ways to do it :

  • YouTube capsules can be quite good, take a look
  • Learning with your SO (Your SO could teach you, and vice versa!)
  • Online courses
  • HelloTalk, an application to help you with any language

13 – Making videos together! We see many LDR couple vlogging about their daily life. If it’s a thing that interest you, you should definitely try it! And think about it, you’re creating souvenirs at the same time :).

And that’s it for this week activities list! Hope you liked it. See you next week!

List of activities

Hello there!!!

I decided to begin a list of things you can do while still being miles away from each other! LETTUCE BEGIN! (I found this cute expression out of Krist Soup on youtube! Check out her channel!)

First of all, we all know that Skype is a must! But what else can you share?

  1. If you like to play games you should take a look at : Board game arena! This is a website where you can play board games for free online with other people. If you have a taste for competition, check this out ;).
  2. We also found a game to play on our cellphone called : Ascension, check this out if you like card games!
  3. Since we like to draw things for each other why not drawing something that will appear directly on the lock screen of your SO cellphone? : LokLok is for you! Check this app out. Bruno and I have been using this for a few weeks now, and we love it!
  4. Questions list is a must! If you think you knew everything about your partner, well try out some lists on internet for free or try out books!
  5. How to text each other without paying monstrous price? Bruno and I have been using the application WhatsApp since the beginning of our LDR, and this allows us, with an internet connection to send to each other pictures, voice messages, texts and to talk on the phone. What’s more fantastic about this application ? It’s free!
  6. If you follow our blog post, there was drawing together on Skype mentioned on a previous post! But it doesn’t hurt to repeat. If you want to know more about how we do our drawing appointment take a look in our creative list blog post!
  7. Dates! Oh yes dates! Bruno and I invite each other officially on dates. For example, you can cook together, planning the same meal and then have a romantic dinner together. I even had coffee with Bruno (internet is required of course at the coffee shop). A little note here : Act as if you invite your SO in real life on a date. It is not because you are only talking on Skype that cancelling a date is less offensive to your significant other.

This is it for the first list post! Let us know if you want to know more activities to do together and applications that helps!

Countdown calendar

You finally have a date on a calendar? You FINALLY have your plane ticket? You are excited and want to see every days and hours that separate you from your SO go away? But, how to make the wait feel less heavy? I answer to that : A homemade countdown calendar! It always feel good at the end of the day to scratch a huge X on the calendar. It is a quick and easy way to keep track of how many days you have left, and it feel amazing to see the amount of day decrease. If you are just like, me you like to have multiple calendar everywhere you go (I have one at my office, one in my apartment and on my cellphone), you will like this little craft idea.

Many ways of creating a countdown calendar exists… some ideas here :

  • Candy in a jar for each day left – you eat one a day!
  • Countdown cellphone app – Try Days left app for androids!Screenshot_20160515-172311.png
  • Normal calendar – Putting an X at the end of each day!
  • 2 jars : One for the days left, and one for the passed days. Fill the first with tiny jewels/objects of your choice, and you only need to transfer 1 jewel in the another jar per day!
  • Crafting your own countdown! Here’s mine :

Take drawing paper (thicker) and cut it in even square of the size you prefer. Cut the number you need. Reshape those piece of paper as you wish! Heart shape, airplane, geometric ones, multiple shapes, etc…

Get your favorite color pencils, and depending on the amount of time left, choose a color for each 10 days. What I decided exactly is to begin with, black, then grey, and then cold colors (blue, purple) to hot colors (pink, red). The more I get closer to see my SO, the shades turns into a hot one.

IMG_20160515_160217

Now that you wrote all the number of days left on each piece of paper you need to turn on your creativity portion of your brain! Quotes? Drawings? Plain? Coloring? Things you like about him/her? Photos/scrapbooking? You decide! I choose to write quotes, weeks left, couple anniversaries dates, anything to help me cheer up.

Now we want to put them all together! You can create holes at the top of each piece of paper and tied them up with a lace, or you can create a giant countdown wall in your room with stickers.

You finally have your countdown calendar! You can do what you want with each day that pass by : put it to trash, put an X on it, or simply flip it at the end if you laced them all together!

Hope you liked this little craft idea 🙂 don’t forget to comment and send me photos of your own countdown calendar. Thanks for reading!

Handmade Couple Tees?

Hello there!! Want to do something creative, cute and useful for you and your lover? Why not creating your OWN couple T-shirts? Oh yeah you read well… we’re going to paint on shirts! I’ll share with you my secrets about fabric painting on this post, let’s begin.

The example I’ll show you today is actually one of the birthday gift I sent to Bruno recently. I took a drawing from one of our couple drawing session to embellish a simple shirt and make it more personal.

Material :

  • Plain shirt
  • Fabric paint (PEBEO)
  • Brushes
  • Scalpel
  • Printer/paper
  • A drawing that you want to reproduce
  • Tape
  • Iron/ironing board
  • Creativity and patience

**(I recommend to read through the whole text before trying out to make sure you have everything!)

1- Fist you need to find a plain shirt of any color. My advice would be to use black, it is easier to correct and modify if it is your first try. (H&M, Forever 21, and other boutique have plain and cheap shirts in stock year round!)

2-Find PEBEO fabric paint, preferably opaque one (or any other fabric paint you can find in any art shop). Again my advice here would be to try black and white first.

IMG_20160328_194524

3- Paint brush! Of course since we’re going to paint. Any type is OK, as long as you feel comfortable with the size and shape of the brushes you’re going to use.

4- Find a simple drawing that inspire you (sketches are the best), it could be anything, here’s mine:

IMG_20160313_192541~2

I decided to take my own drawing so the shirt would be personalized.

5- Print the drawing the size you want it to be on a shirt, and find the location you would prefer.

6- Cut with a scalpel the majors parts of your drawing so you can have a good idea where to paint your lines.

6- Put a hard board inside the shirt to the location of the drawing, like that it’s going to be easier to paint and you’ll have less chances that the paint go through all the layers of fabric. Another tip would be to tighten the shirt with clips so the fabrics will not move during the creative process.

7- Tape the drawing so it can’t move. Paint over the holes you cut with the scalpel with the color of your choice. Wait for the first layer to dry completely (which normally doesn’t take too much time).

8- After it’s completely dry, remove the tape and the paper to complete the painting. Now we will play at : join the lines. With the same color complete the blank space so it could resemble the drawing.

IMG_20160328_200009

9- With the black paint, you can adjust the color that overfill. Wait each layer to be completely dry before applying a second one or another color. Now, add some fantasy if you want!

10- Flip the shirt over when everything is over and dry. Iron the fabric where you painted for around 5 minutes. Now your shirt can be worn out and put to the washing machine without any problem!

Want an other example: here’s how our couple shirts looks like (thematic Panda) based on the same methods:

IMG-20160214-WA0000

There you go! Hope you liked it, and will make good use of this tutorial. Please, send me pictures if you tried it, I would love to see others works of art.

PS. Even though this post is about couple shirts, you can use this to embellish any of your shirt! Go and be creative now. 🙂

Couple drawing session?

Hello there,

If you stumbled upon our blog and saw the drawingAday and found it interesting, well we decided to elaborate a bit about it and transform it to a couple drawing session.

Drawing together on Skype you will say?? Why the hell not!

If you are wondering what type of activity you can do together, here’s one that can help you reinforce your creativity. We all know that being in a LDR means that we need to be creative, and a good way to practice that out is… Drawing!

Before we thought about that, we were separately drawing times to times and sending each other what we’ve done. One day we decided to try to do it together, and get inspiration out of the same thing and see what we get. He’s really efficient on his cellphone, and I am better with good old classic pen and paper. The thematic is always different, but the basic of it is always is the same… we LOVE cute things! Especially pandas… So here’s a result of one of those session:

Pandaaaaaa!

Sushi time!

If you want to do the same thing, this is quite easy. Go on Pinterest together, or even on Google image, find an animal/object/food/whateveryouwouldliketodraw and GO! Here’s a little list of things that you can write to find cute things:

-Chibi X (replace the X by basically anything)

-Plushies of something (it’s always cute!)

-Manga (I find that manga has funny way to draw animals or cute creatures!)

-Cute drawings (as simple as that!)

-Sketches of X (Bruno’s best advice, he found tons with this on Pinterest)

My advice : Your imagination is your best friend :). No need for cute things if it doesn’t inspire you, find something that both activate your imagination. Don’t be sad if you can’t find a common idea, you can also draw different things. Here’s another example that came out of an other session:

I hope this little post will boost your creativity! Post a comment if you tried it, and let me know the results. Everyone loves to have a little bit of inspiration after all!

Have a nice day.

A drawing per day

Hi everyone, Bruno here!

For this one I would like to share this creative LDR project I’m in. It is about trying to making Julie-Anne smile every morning when she wakes up (and I’m not talking about bringing breakfast in bed or… stuff hahahaha). Just kidding, it is not easy to be in a long distance relationship and as she said in the first post, we need to be creative in order to keep it healthy.

Since I’m more or less creative I needed to get the inspiration somewhere. One day we were on our daily routine talking on Skype and mumbling about random stuff, when I suddenly came up with the work and idea of Curtis Wiklund http://curtiswiklundphoto.com/sketches/. His project is to draw every day, for one year, for his wife about their daily lives. I was amazed by his work and most importantly, it matches with us so well that I could not ignore that. So I decided to do around the same thing… a drawing per day for Julie-Anne.

So how do I make them? I use an app that already come with the cellphone I have and it’s called Keep. It has many features and one of them is to draw. That feature is really simple and I love the way it works (No need for Adobe Photoshop, or a tablet…). So, now that we have an application to work with, what I do is search on the internet for inspiration. I simply search for sketches and drawings that have meanings of what we did or what she’s doing in the next day and I draw them on this app. Usually I post every night after she gets to bed so she can see it in the next morning when she wakes up. If at least I can make her smile just once every day… That is great for me already!

And now, if you want to see the drawingAday: go in the drawings/pictures section in the menu Creative list. A drawing is going to be posted each day. 🙂

Thanks for reading, hope it got you inspired!!!

Bruno

Here’s a little drawing from Curtis that we thought represented us well (as well as the drawing on the top of this blog post). Go check out his website!
